Hello May!

As the days get longer and hotter, there are lots more things happening in this stunning part of the UK. If you’re looking for group experiences or staying locally and want some great days out for your group then read on……

Peak Cavern
Peak Cavern also known as the Devils Arse – it has the largest cave entrance in the UK and forms part of the largest cave system in the Peak District. It is now a popular venue for concerts and special events. There are several events throughout the year, and the village pop up cinema starts with its showing of Back to the Future on the 1st May. For more information of what’s on visit Peak Cavern.

Food Glorious Food (with a little drink!)
There are some fabulous food and drink festivals happening in May across the region. The ever-popular Bustler Street Market is hosting the Sausage & Cider Festival (7th May), Wing Fest (May 13th) and the Gin & Rum Festival (21st May). All are sure to be fantastic events with onsite entertainment. For a more local foodie experience check out the Tideswell Food Festival (located near Buxton) on the 7th May. You’ll certainty look like the foodie expert, and this local market will provide a great place to buy and experience Derbyshire and the Peak Districts finest products.

Well Dressing
This unusual costume is a regular feature across several Derbyshire villages starting in May. The true origins of this beautiful tradition are lost to time, but it’s thought they originate from a Pagan custom of making offerings to the gods of wells and springs. This really took off in Victorian times, and the elaborate pictures made from individual flowers became a unique Derbyshire tradition.
Look out for them in Etwall, Tissington and Wirksworth this May.

And finally….
Don’t forget that a lot of the breweries, distilleries and wineries throughout the area have regular tours and events happening throughout the year. There are also horseracing events at both Uttoxeter and Nottingham racecourses. The races is always a great group day out, and it’s Ladies Day on Saturday 7th May at Nottingham Racecourse if you want to get dressed up! So if you’re looking for something specific don’t be disappointed – let us know and we can arrange your tickets and transport.
